The Project:

The remote island of Kadavu is far removed from the population centers of the Fiji Islands. As a result the communities on the island are restricted in their accessibility to basic amenities and services. The Matava Foundation was created to enable goodwill-based outside organizations such as Indian Valley Travel to visit the island and undertake projects dedicated to improving the quality of life for the native people.

Background:

The Matava Foundation on Kadavu Island Fiji is driven by Matava Resort owner’s passion for the Fiji Islands and the communities which live in the area. The Foundation makes social investments that help the people of Fiji to have fuller lives by sharing the benefits of sustainable development, Protecting the natural environment and supporting the local communities in which Matava’s customers, employees, investors and suppliers live.

Our group will stay 7 nights at Matava Eco-Resort and dive the third largest barrier reef in world just outside the shores of the resort. After daily 2-tank morning scuba dives, our team will transfer by boat to a local village to spend the afternoon working alongside organizers of the Matava Foundation to refurbish buildings of several local schools. After volunteer work is completed in the late afternoon, our group will transfer by boat back to Matava Eco-Resort to have the remainder of the afternoon and evening at your leisure.

During our times working at the local schools, we will also be presenting donated educational supplies that will be collected at our headquarters between trip dates.

We will spend our last day touring Kadavu Island to view the lush flora and fauna of the
surrounding rain forest. Additional optional adventure activities available on the last day on the
island include hiking, horseback riding, kayaking and shopping at local village markets.
