B&J Diving Center & Tioman Dive Resort

Tioman Island, Malaysia

B&J Diving Centre and Tioman Dive Resort are located on Tioman Island in Malaysia, heaven for beginners as well as experienced divers or those who want to learn scuba diving.

B&J was established in 1986 and is today one of the largest dive centers in Malaysia. It’s run by a Malay/German/Swiss management who places high values on quality, safety, customer satisfaction, and environmental protection.

As a PADI 5 Star Instructor Development Centre, B&J teaches all PADI courses from beginner to instructor level as well as technical diving and rebreather courses.

Certified divers join up to 3 boat dives per day plus night dives. The 2-morning dives bring you to dive sites in the vicinity of the famous Coral Island, whereas the single afternoon dive will be at a dive site closer to Tioman Island. Distance by boat to the 20+ sites is between 5min to 20min. Nitrox as well as Oxygen and Helium fills for technical divers and support for CCR divers are readily available.

Group sizes for leisure diving and courses are always kept small with a maximum of 4 divers per PADI professional.

Tioman Dive Resort is owned by B&J and offers divers and non-divers alike some of the nicest rooms on Tioman Island. The small resort has just 11 rooms and won the Certificate of Excellence from Tripadvisor. Guests can choose between Deluxe or the larger Executive rooms with multiple bedding configurations. Travelers on a budget can stay in one of B&J’s 4 air-conditioned dormitory rooms that sleep up to 5 guests each. After a happy day of diving relax and enjoy the sunset at B&J Beach Bar.

Though somewhat overshadowed in the past by the more famous dive destinations of eastern Malaysia such as Sipadan and Mabul, Tioman and its surrounding smaller islands are now gaining a reputation as one of the best destinations in the South China Sea for both its diversity of marine life and the health of its coral reefs. Another reason for Tioman’s growing popularity is the range of diving experiences available, which are suitable for everyone from novices to tech divers. There is a wealth of shallow to mid-depth sites where large boulder fields are covered by a variety of hard and soft corals. An abundance of caverns and swim-throughs capture the attention of explorers, while critter hunters can find all manner of macro life tucked into crevices or hiding among rubble fields. Pinnacles attract large shoals of reef fish, which in turn draw the attention of jacks, mackerel yellowfin barracuda, and rainbow runners. Wreck enthusiasts have a number of options, from collections of small fishing boats that hold grouper and snapper to larger wrecks at mid-range depths and a collection of WWII wrecks from battleships to submarines, which are accessible to tech divers. The crown jewel of this ghost fleet is the 745-foot HMS Prince of Wales.

B&J works hard to operate as an eco-resort to help educate visitors and reduce their impact. They participate in the PADI Project AWARE program and have been awarded the PADI Green Star™ Award and are also a top ten Green Fins Member. This means they have demonstrated a commitment to conservation that includes water conservation, energy use, environmentally friendly transportation practices, use of sustainable materials, conservation leadership, and a donation to conservation through Project AWARE.

The facility is fully equipped with some of the best dive equipment available in the market (Scubapro and Aqualung), which is serviced and replaced on a regular basis. The Bauer compressors provide the purest air available (Bauer Pure Air Certified).
