Bayala Private Safari Lodges

 South Africa

Bayala Private Safari Lodges are a welcoming and affordable safari lodge situated in a ‘Big 5’ game reserve just 3 hours north of Durban, South Africa, in the ancient kingdom of Zululand. Vast and enchanting, the Bayala wilderness forms part of and traverses a 12 000-ha area of a 30 000-ha private safari and conservation heartland providing outstanding wildlife safaris in South Africa where all of Africa’s wildlife greats roam free. Twice-daily safaris bring spectacular sightings of lions, elephants, leopards, buffalos, and rhinos in their natural world, along with cheetahs, zebras, giraffes, and a remarkable variety of other wildlife.

Family-friendly and open-hearted, Bayala welcomes guests to two independently run lodges, each with 24 rooms offering all the essential comforts. At Bayala life is lived with homespun finesse, and the lodges provide chic lounges and bars, dining areas both indoors and out under star-sprinkled skies, and a pool deck that keeps close company with the wilderness.

Rehabilitation of wilderness and restoration of wildlife are Bayala’s highest priorities. Guests have a privileged window into conservation-in-action and are offered the opportunity to participate in hands-on activities such as the dehorning of rhinos. Green living and sustainability are also prized, and guests are invited into an earth-friendly way of life.

Excursions and Extracurriculars

There is no shortage of activities to participate in at Bayala Private Safari Lodges. Such activities include game drives, bush walks, and conservation projects. The morning game drive unfolds the miracle of daybreak in the wilderness. Depart into the approaching dawn on a 4×4 safari vehicle with your guide. Watch the sunrise paint its glory across the vast plains, and see the wild world emerge fresh and new. Birds bring greetings, herds gather to drink at watering holes, and predators show themselves before taking shelter against the heat of the day. The afternoon game drive departs when the heat of the day begins to subside and pauses to toast the sunset. After nightfall, your safari hosts will track the impressive nocturnal animals that every safari-goer hopes to see.

Join Bayala’s team of experts in the de-horning of a rhino as part of a continuing operation to combat poaching. Hands-on conservation is a transformative experience and an unforgettable part of a wildlife safari in South Africa.

For families, the welcome is unconditional, and children of all ages are catered for. Bayala’s Kids in Africa program brims with fun and lively eco-action activities that teach children the ways of the wild. The camp is fenced unobtrusively, creating a secure wilderness space in which children can learn experientially.
