Lady Elliot Island forms part of the state of Queensland and is located off the east coast of Australia. This small and pristine area, the southernmost coral cay of the Great Barrier Reef, is most easily accessed from the coastal town of Bundaberg. Situated within the Green Zone of the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park – the highest classification for biodiversity – the water surrounding Lady Elliot Island is home to manta rays, carpet sharks and humpback whales. Both green and loggerhead turtles visit the shores, and the island lays claim to one of the broadest diversity of seabirds of any island within the reef. Scuba diving and snorkeling are the most popular activities, while the island also features a photogenic Lighthouse and the Lady Elliot Island Eco Resort.
