Taveuni Island

Fondly nicknamed 'The Garden Isle', Taveuni is the third-largest island in Fiji. This cigar-shaped island is a massive shield volcano which rises from the floor of the Pacific Ocean 6.5km to the east of Vanua Levu, across the Somosomo Strait. Taveuni is an archetypically beautiful tropical island, thick with lush vegetation and resplendent with tropical flowers. Pristine rainforest covers much of the island, and around 80% of this is protected by a forest reserve and the Bouma National Heritage Park. Hikers and nature enthusiasts can enjoy a number of excellent hiking trails as well as world-class birdwatching, with Kula Lorikeets, Silktails and Orange Doves and over 100 other species of bird calling Taveuni home.
