Long before John Patterson officially joined the Deep Blue Adventures team, he was already an important part of the family behind it. As Cheryl’s husband and a behind-the-scenes supporter of Deep Blue since its earliest days, John has been there through the company’s growth, changes, challenges, and adventures. Today, he continues to be an integral part of the team, helping make the journeys we create possible.
John is a military veteran with more than 32 years of experience in the aviation industry. His career began in the United States Air Force before transitioning into the corporate aviation world, where he developed a wealth of experience in leadership, operations, and navigating the ever-changing world of aviation.
While John has always been involved with Deep Blue in one way or another, he officially joined the team full-time in 2022. Today, as our Journey Support Partner, John is one of the people working behind the scenes to support our team, our travelers, and the many moving pieces that go into creating a successful adventure.
But John’s love for Deep Blue goes far beyond his work.
An avid recreational diver for more than 25 years, John has explored the underwater world alongside Cheryl and the rest of the Deep Blue family for decades. He is also a certified rebreather diver, giving him the opportunity to experience the underwater world in an entirely different way.
Of all the things John enjoys about traveling and diving, however, photography is where his true passion shines.
Give John an incredible destination, a camera, and a little time underwater, and he is in his happy place. He loves capturing the wildlife, landscapes, people, and unexpected moments that make each journey memorable – and sharing those experiences with others through his photography.
John may spend much of his time behind the scenes, but he has been an important part of the Deep Blue story from the very beginning. From supporting Cheryl and the team to joining the family on adventures around the world, he has watched Deep Blue grow from a small family business into the adventure travel company it is today.
For John, travel is about experiencing the world, capturing the moments, and creating memories that last long after the journey ends.
And if he can bring a camera along for the adventure, even better.
