Clark’s Cay is a 4-acre All-Inclusive island oasis on the south side of Guanaja that offers incredible seascapes throughout. Originally held as a private island, the resort reopened to the public in 2018 following a substantial renovation. This included the installation of an open-air restaurant and bar, an infinity pool and spa along with a meandering lazy river to watch the sunset.
The island accommodates up to 20 guests in 7 Standard Rooms, 1 One-Bedroom, and 1 Two-Bedroom Suite. All are air-conditioned with wrap-around porches to enjoy the sea breeze.
Guanaja’s fringing reef is a protected marine reserve making it an ideal spot for scuba diving and snorkeling nearly anywhere offshore the mainland. Part of a volcanic and coral mountain range called The Bonacca Ridge, Guanaja marks the beginning of the second largest barrier reef in the world – the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef. It offers a mixture of pinnacles, vertical walls, lava tunnels, and wrecks including the nearby Jado Trader, one of the most sought-after wrecks in the Caribbean. It also boasts nearly every species of coral growing in the Caribbean Sea, including several species of rare black coral, and sponges of all colors, shapes, and sizes. Concierge dive services enable guests to fully enjoy the splendor of Guanaja’s coral reef system featuring dives on pinnacles, walls, and the wreck of the Jado Trader. Cabañas on Clark’s Cay is dedicated to responsible social and environmental business practices that include water conservation, energy reduction, proper waste disposal, use of mooring buoys, and respect for local cultures, laws, and regulations. In their continuing effort to make a difference, especially to the ocean environment, they are an active Conservation Partner with REEF.org. Guests have opportunities to engage in survey dives and lionfish removal. Cabanas on Clark’s Cay and Villa on Dunbar Rock are involved in many other different ocean conservation initiatives and work closely with the government to contribute above and below the water. On March 8, 2016, Guanaja’s first hyperbaric chamber and clinic (Clinica Hiperbarica) opened made possible through a grant from DAN and the generous contributions from the owner of Clark’s Cay/Dunbar Rock and a close associate.
The Waterpark
Imagine one island, 20 guests, almost as many staff, and a private waterpark guaranteed to bring the kid out in anyone! Doesn’t that sound like your kind of place?
The Clark’s Cay Team, divers themselves, know their guests enjoy nothing more than being in the water. Any water, all the time. So, in 2017, while renovating the island amenities, it was decided to build a private waterpark for the guests’ enjoyment during their breaks from diving.
The waterpark originally included a spa and an infinity pool with a waterslide entering a lazy river, complete with a tunnel and waterfall.
In 2019, the Team expanded the waterpark “toys” to include some giant inflatable ride-on floats, and just off the sandy beach, a water trampoline. Paddleboards are now available in addition to kayaks. And lest we forget to mention it – the PADI dive operation offers up to three boat dives daily!
The pool was quickly upgraded to include a color-changing light show. The friendly and observant pool bar staff now use the show to time their drink deliveries. If the light is green when you float by the pool bar and call out your order, you’re guaranteed to have a new drink in hand by the next green loop.
