Upon arrival check in and enjoy an afternoon game drive at your home for the next 3 nights.

Sausage Tree Safari Camp offers up a good dose of that authentic old-style safari, sleeping under canvas in tent-style accommodation.

At this intimate camp (smaller than most in the region) you’ll feel closer to nature than ever waking up among the surrounding Marula, Knobthorn and Sausage Trees. Each tent is elevated to make the most of the views over the nearby riverbed. From the main area of the camp, on a clear day, you’ll even be able to spot the Drakensberg Mountains rising up in the distance.

What makes Sausage Tree Safari Camp so special is that it retains a friendly, homely atmosphere. This is in due part to it being family-owned and operated. During your stay, it’s likely you’ll even rub shoulders with the owners themselves; Sonja and James, who are still very much involved in the running of the camp.

Meals are served on the open deck which features views of the bush and waterhole which is frequently visited by a variety of resident animals. The bar area and communal lounge are both great for kicking back with a crisp drink and engaging in some light convo with some of the guides and other guests, but it’s the refreshing deck pool that becomes the center of attraction on those hot summer afternoons.

With the free flow of animals into Balule Nature Reserve from the Kruger National Park, you’ll have direct access to a wide range of prolific wildlife including the Big 5 on 4×4 guided game drives, and that all without having to compete with the safari crowds.

Your day ahead awaits with 2 game drives and plenty of time for relaxation or optional activities in between.

Balule Game Reserve covers 40 000 hectares on the western boundary of the Kruger National Park. African wildlife roams freely in this area as there are no fences between the two areas. That means exceptional Big Five game viewing in a private area where guest numbers are limited.

Experienced rangers use their vast knowledge and bushcraft on Balule game drives to search for the much sought after Big Five (lion, leopard, elephant, rhino and buffalo) and other plains game such as zebra, wildebeest, giraffe.

Open vehicles add a greater sense of adventure for close encounters with African wildlife. Guests enjoy the sights, scents and sounds of the bush which is essential for an exciting game drive. Most Balule Game Reserve lodges offer dawn and dusk game drives which are the optimal times for game viewing in the cooler hours. Refreshments are served at scenic spots.

Departure:

After breakfast you will transfer to Rhino Post Lodge  where you will be staying for the next 3 nights.

Check in to Rhino Post Safari Lodge and if there is time, enjoy an afternoon game drive.

Game drives are the predominant activity at Rhino Post Safari Lodge, you are after all in the Kruger National Park. However, guests are offered additional activities which include chilling at the swimming pool or on the bar deck watching for animals coming to drink at the waterhole. Alternatively, in-room massage therapy is an excellent way to while away the time between meals and drives. Enjoy night-time stargazing using the lodges large telescope, or sip on a delectable cocktail at the bar.

In addition to limited driving on our 12,000-hectare concession, we have exclusive use of some of the Kruger National Park public roads at night. SANParks has allowed us the added advantage of being able to utilize 170km of Park roads after gate closing time – when all the self-drive tourists have left and when the other concessions have to be back on their respective properties.

A typical day would include an early start, a cup of fresh coffee or tea, after which guests set out on their safari drive. Guides at the lodge meet the stringent requirements of the South African National Parks, and senior guides hold the highest guiding qualifications possible in South Africa, to ensure that your encounters with the African wilderness are exciting, informative and safe.

Two game drives per day.

Your last full day is sadly here and with it your last chance to enjoy two game drives per day or your option of any other way you wish to celebrate what was sure to have been an amazing vacation.

Following an early breakfast, if time permits, embark on a game drive before departing for the local airport, carrying the spirit of Africa with you.
