Mchenja, meaning “ebony” in the local language, is a luxurious and stylish tented camp set in a grove of magnificent ebony trees, overlooking a sweeping bend in the Luangwa River. Known as one of the most luxurious and romantic bush camps in Zambia, Mchenja offers an intimate connection with nature while providing the height of comfort.
The camp features five uniquely designed octagonal tents, each equipped with roll-top baths and outdoor showers, allowing guests to enjoy breathtaking views of the river from their rooms. The central lounge, or chitenje, is built around an ancient fallen ebony tree, offering a cool, shady retreat for lunch, while dinner is often served under the stars on the riverbank.
Mchenja is located in an excellent game-viewing area. Elephants are known to drink from the plunge pool in the main area, and lions and leopards are frequently seen wandering around the nearby ebony grove and permanent lagoon. The camp offers a range of safari activities, including walking safaris, game drives, and night drives, ensuring guests experience the wildlife-rich surroundings in the most exciting and productive ways.
